Lake Coeur d'Alene
Coeur d'Alene Lake is absolutely stunning. Almost 25 miles long and anywhere from 1 to 3 miles wide, Coeur d'Alene Lake boasts almost 110 miles of shoreline: from beautiful sandy beaches to rocky cliffs with stunning views.
Coeur d'Alene Lake is an active lake with lots of boating, jet skiing, water skiing, wake boarding, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, cruising, etc. happens on this lake. There are multiple lake front restaurants that encourage patrons to boat up, park and partake.
Each year in June, athletes aspiring to be Ironmen take over the lake for their 2.4 mile early morning swim. A fun event to participate in and/or volunteer for. Thousands of people participate and volunteer within the community.
There are several neighborhoods that surround Lake Coeur d'Alene including: The Fort Grounds, Sanders Beach, Kidd Island Bay, Black Rock and Gozzer Ranch.
Fun Facts about Lake Coeur d'Alene:
There are quite a few Ford Model T's at the bottom of Lake Coeur d'Alene! In the early 1900's, driving across the lake while it was frozen was commonly done to save time driving the perimeter of the Lake. These Model T's, as well as sunken steamer boats, provide excellent scuba diving opportunities for scuba enthusiasts.
The Wolf Lodge and Beauty Bay area of Lake Coeur d'Alene is proud to host the winter feeding grounds for the Bald Eagle. Dozens upon dozens of bald eagles migrate in the winter months (November through March) to enjoy tasty salmon. Taking a walk along Higgins Point will offer you up close and personal views of these magnificent creatures.
